Cross Country Skiing

The Elliot Lake area offers endless opportunities to explore nature's beauty on skis. Cross-country skiers can enjoy several groomed trails within the City limits and endless kilometres of ungroomed back country roads and trails.

Trails

Cross-country skiing is a wonderfully safe and healthy way for people of all ages and abilities to enjoy the winter season and the stunning landscapes of Elliot Lake and the region.

The Bob Stirling Cross Country Ski and Biking Trail offers classic-track loops from two to 12 kilometres in length which offer excellent terrain for novices right up to experts, with rest and warming stations located along the trail. The trail follows the south shore of Elliot Lake through 300-year-old hemlock stands, Hector Lake and Mink Lake, to loop back to the plowed parking lot adjacent to Spine Beach. There is also a Short Loop adjacent to the parking lot, for learning.

Loop 5 is ungroomed and is designed for intermediate skiers looking to upgrade their skills.

For the more daring, there are many back-country touring trails along the shores of frozen lakes, at Mount Dufour, and at Sherriff Creek, that the Club maintains for your enjoyment
